Qalin News. May 21, 2013. Addis Ababa- The Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn declared that his government will defend Somaliland from attacks from Somalia and the militant organisations such us Alshabab, the PM told it in a key speech to the parliament.
The Prime Minister insisted that his government will provide diplomatic, military and economic support to Somalia if what he called neighbouring Somalia or Alshabab militants attack Somaliland.

The PM speaking the the Ethiopian parliament said "Ethiopia is ready to provide diplomatic, military and economic support to Somaliland if they need it" "

The Prime Minister also confirmed that there is bilateral relation between the two horn of African states, Ethiopia and Somaliland, but didn't confirm if his statement means that his government recognised Somaliland as an independent state from Somalia.


The speech came a day after Somaliland marked its 22nd anniversary of the declaration of its secession from Somalia, which didn't get recognition from the world.

Ethiopian forces invaded Somalia in 2006 to destroy the Islamic courts regime, and fought in Mogadishu with Alshabab untill January 2009 when they withdrew from Somalia.
