The 16-member traditional elders' chamber Banadiri clans of Shingaani had elected the chief of the 16 chiefs Ugas Aydarus Haji Omar to represent the Shingaani Chamber of the Banadiri tradional elders at the national Traditional Elders' council, which will have the mandate to select, vet and approve the members of the coming parliament.

Announcement of Shangaani representative of the National Traditional Elders Council – The Council that selects the parliament!

The 16-member traditional elders’ chamber Banadiri clans of Shingaani had elected the chief of the 16 chiefs Ugas Aydarus Haji Omar to represent the Shingaani Chamber of the Banadiri tradional elders at the national Traditional Elders’ council, which will have the mandate to select, vet and approve the members of the coming parliament.

Chief of the 16 Shingaani chiefs, Chief Omar will represent the Shingaani Chamber of Banadiri Council of traditional elders at the 135-member National Council of the Traditional Elders.

Chief Aydarus Haji Omar, is the chief of the chief of the Shingaani Chamber and he has the full mandate to represent the Shingaani elders of the Banadiri community.

"Chief Aydarus Haji Omar was fairly elected in 2012 and inaugurated for the position to represent his community, but because of interventions from other non-Banadiri political leaders, he was dropped from the list of the 135-member of the Somalia Traditional Elders.” Said the deputy chairman of the of Shangani Council Abdullahi Sayid-Ali Hagi Da'ud.

"the 16-member traditional elders of Shingaani, urge the government of Somalia, especially the interior ministry, to respect the will of the community and facilitate Chief Omar to all the accreditations needed.”

The chamber of the council members also urged the international community to pressure the Somalia political leaders to respect the rights of the minority community to choose their representatives at the national level, regional level and community level.
