    Mogadishu, QN - At least 21 people were killed and 20 others were wounded in Mogadishu after Alshabab suicide bombers stormed the UNDP compound in Mogadishu.

Mogadishu, QN - At least 21 people were killed and 20 others were wounded in Mogadishu after Alshabab suicide bombers stormed the UNDP compound in Mogadishu.

Eight UN workers, four expartiates and four security staff were among the death as well as six civilians and the 7 fighters who attacked the compound.
Alshabab fighters and suicide bombers stormed the UN Compound on the airport road mid day Wednesday, after a car suicide bomber exploded the car at the main gate to open the gate for the attackers.


Alshabab claimed the responsibility of the attack and said that it killed 16 UN staffers including 3 Britons, 2 Kenyans and a South African, but no indepdent source confirms their claims.

The Somalia interior minister Abdikarim Hussein Guled confirmed the attack on the UNDP compound and the killing of 16 people.

"Seven Alshabab terrorists attacked the UN compound, they killed eight people including for foreign staff of the UN and four others, and they were all killed" said the minister.

"We condemnt such barbaric act and all acts of terror, we will do every thing possible to prevent the heineus attacks from the terrorists" he added.

The fighters entered the UNDP compound and fought against the security forces for about an hour before some of them exploded themselves and the rest killed.

Somalia security forces and AMISOM were carrying security sweepout in parts of the city the time Alshabab fighters launched the attack on the compound.
